CS Monitor: alleged Eritrean member of al Shabaab Mohamed Ibrahim Ahmed to be tried in New York
According to US prosecutors, Ahmed is a bomb-maker trained in Somalia by the al Qaeda affiliated terrorist group, al Shabaab. He was detained in Nigera and is suspected of being from Eritrea, a government that has a history of supporting al Shabaab to upset its pro-Western neighbor, Ethiopia.
During her trip to Africa in August, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Eritrea saying, ”It is long past time for Eritrea to cease and desist its support of Al Shabab and to start being a productive rather than a destabilizing neighbor,” she said. “We are making it very clear that their actions are unacceptable.”
