Google gets lip from China, of course, but Brazil too?!
A popular Chinese newspaper, as expected, blasted Google again today by saying that the company is a spy for the U.S. in an “internet war.” That is some incendiary propaganda, and quite insulting, but did they have to call Google a slut too?
“For Chinese people, Google is not god, and even if it puts on a full-on show about politics and values, it is still not god,” said a front-page commentary in the paper. In fact, Google is not a virgin when it comes to values. Its cooperation and collusion with the U.S. intelligence and security agencies is well-known,” said the newspaper. All this makes one wonder. Thinking about the United States’ big efforts in recent years to engage in Internet war, perhaps this could be an exploratory pre-dawn battle,” Chinese newspaper, The People’s Daily
But wait, there’s more!
To the surprise of everyone, Brazil has tagged into the bout against Google. According to The Times of India, a court in the northern state of Rondonia has ordered Google to pay $2,700 a day until they censor some dirty jokes on its networking site, Orkut. This from a country where its socially acceptable for anyone of any size to wear a thong in public? Maybe Rondonia should tell some of its citizens to get their minds out of the gutter.
